The Road Trip Tray team consists of 5 professionals in design, marketing and engineering, each with over 30 years of experience working in their respective fields. Collaborating on many projects over the years there was always a constant complaint amongst us; the problem of eating in our car or truck in transit to meetings, commuting to the office or on business travel with a cup of coffee and a breakfast muffin, a burrito, a burger to even a donut. It was agreed there has to be a better way to avoid crumbs and debris in the car, dripped mustard or salsa and stained clothes and general chaos cause by dropped food on your lap.
This was the birth of the Road Trip Tray concept.
It was agreed that these specific issues needed to be addressed:
Size: it had to be available to be used by the driver, so the size needed to be limited to include the incursion of the steering wheel
Fit: the tray must fit close to the waist of the user so that dropped food and leaked condiments were capture by the tray, not on your clothing
Stability: the tray must have a simple way to be stabilized on the lap of the user, even during extreme manoeuvres such as sudden braking, sudden turns and bouncing from rough roads
Ease of use: Easy to clean and easy to store in the vehicle with no additional restraining devices such as tie straps and external clips
